The Environment authority carried out a campaign to cultivate mangroves, whereby the specialists of the Marine Environment Conservation Department, in coordination with the Environment Department in Al Wusta Governorate, planted 1,000 seedlings of mangrove seedlings in Khor Ghawi, in the state of Jazir. Increasing the areas of mangrove forests and increasing the biodiversity of marine organisms. In this regard, Badr bin Saif Al Busaidi, a specialist in natural reserves, stressed the importance of this natural resource and its close association with humans and its impact on the economic and social aspects, and its contribution is also great to enrich biodiversity and create A balanced ecosystem that complements the surrounding ecosystems.
Al-Busaidi added that the mangrove seedlings cultivation project began to be implemented in 2001 and until today, about 685 thousand mangrove seedlings have been cultivated in 32 sites, and through studies and field visits whose results indicated a tangible increase in biodiversity due to the presence of The mangrove environment system in the lagoons, as it contributed to the increase in the types of wildlife such as crustaceans, molluscs and other small marine organisms that support the surrounding ecosystems. It also contributed to the increase in the number of birds whose habitats depend on the environments of mangroves in addition to the fact that mangrove environments are among the most systems. A complication, as it was discovered recently that it is one of the largest ecosystems that store high amounts of carbon circulating in the atmosphere by human practices, and this calls on us to intensify studies and research to know the amounts of carbon stored in the current forests and their efficiency in preserving biodiversity.
